Tips for Saving on an Eventual Necessity.

As the New Year begins every funeral home says the same thing…may you have a joyous, healthy, and prosperous New Year in 2017.  We at Colonial Funerals serving all of Connecticut are no exception.  From all of us in the Moraski family to you, please have a wonderful 2017.  Now, how would you like some practical advice from a funeral director for a change?

We all have to face it eventually.  In many families the final expenses for a loved one will be a bridge that you must cross more than once.  Why not discuss two topics with those close to you…cremation and pre-planning?  They may want to change the subject at first, but in the long-run you will all be glad that you did.  You might even find it cathartic.

Whatever comes of this discussion, we do hope that 2017 will not be a year that you need our services.  If you decide on pre-planning a funeral then take a few minutes in the early part of January and give us a call at Connecticut’s own Colonial Funerals at (203) 407-8899.  Once that is out of the way, start pursuing your 2017 hopes and dreams.

Planning Your Last Big Purchase.

Whether you are planning ahead for your own funeral or acting on behalf of a loved one you better believe that death can be a major expense.  The median cost of a funeral with a viewing as well as the burial was over $7000 in the most recently reported year of 2014.  That is according to the NFDA (National Funeral Directors Association).

Even a simple cremation with nothing extra can reach as high as that $7000 figure according to the Funeral Consumers Alliance.  Full-service funeral prices may even exceed $14,000!  What better reason to plan ahead now?  Those prices are NOT going down.  And isn’t it better to be tackling this task without the stress?

In the great state of Connecticut funeral pre-planners have it much easier.  They visit www.colonialfunerals.com and find perhaps the only funeral home in the state who actively tries to save your family money in the planning of final expenses.  Visit the website www.colonialfunerals.com then give them a call anywhere in the state of Connecticut at (203) 407-8899.

The Cost of Burial.

These days with changing times and views on our planet’s future it is time to consider the yes or no question of burial.  No longer is there such a thing as a “traditional burial”.  Remember, that if you choose burial, but are not bound to it by religious beliefs that there are different choices.  With funeral homes, burial is another profit center, like it or not.

Many believe that embalming preserves the body.  That is simply not the case!  Embalming is done to protect the area around the burial site ensuring that harmful chemicals do not leak and pollute the surrounding ground.  There is an embalming fee and a refrigeration fee that many experts say could be avoided without harm.

Colonial Funerals, serving all of the great state of Connecticut, wants you to know the facts.  They are perhaps the only funeral home in the state who actively tries to save your family money on final expenses.  By visiting their website, you will see that fact for yourself.  Visit www.colonialfunerals.com then give them a call at (203) 407-8899.

A Funeral Home Shows their Prices Upfront!

What was that?  You met a car salesman who showed you everything behind the scenes?  The people from whom you are about to buy your home tell you every historical flaw in the house?  Is this the era of full disclosure?  Well, not quite perhaps, but in the Connecticut funeral home industry there really is a maverick that believes in full disclosure.

If you are skeptical we understand.  So we invite you to visit www.colonialfunerals.com.  Here, you will find the first funeral home website you may have ever seen with our prices displayed right there on the site.  If that is still not enough for you then stop by our location in Hamden, CT and see that all of the prices are displayed in the showroom.

As remarkable as all of this may seem we are proud to have featured up-front funeral, cremation, and burial pricing throughout our history.  The funeral home industry has been investigated for price gauging for decades.  At Colonial Funerals you will quite simply find honest, fair pricing on any and all services that any Connecticut funeral home could provide.  See for yourself and give us a call at (203) 407-8899.

The Ultimate Case for Pre-Planning.

We plan a vacation.  We plan to buy a home.  We plan to expand our family.  Why do we put off planning the one thing that is guaranteed to happen…the end of our time on earth?  It is a subject that few people want to tackle ahead of time, but the grief and the money that it saves our loved ones cannot be completely measured.

Advanced funeral planning is simply taking care of details before the need arises.  It just makes sense…and you know it!  Not only does it show your concern for loved ones, but you also can orchestrate your final bow on this planet.  You have time now to think about all of the particulars calmly maybe even decades ahead of time.

For those of you in the state of Connecticut, I have a suggestion.  Go to the website www.colonialfunerals.com and fill out their online form.  Then strongly consider making an appointment with the Moraski family.  The peace of mind alone will be well worth it.  To contact your full service discount funeral home in Hamden CT call (203) 407-8899.

Considering Cremation.

More and more cremation has become the proper alternative at the end of a great life well lived.  Certainly there are religious beliefs at play here.  Once you have talked to your family and have determined that cremation over burial is right for you, it would be an excellent time to make those final arrangements.

Of course, the benefits of cremation are obvious.  You keep the earth green by not taking up space after your mortal coil has ceased to function.  The cost of a cremation is obviously less simply because there is no plot of land that needs to be purchased.  And the cost of properly housing the remains goes way down from an expensive casket to an affordable urn.

Have you ever seen a funeral home that proudly displays its prices on their website?  Check out www.colonialfunerals.com.  You may be surprised at the candor, but at Colonial we believe in full disclosure before you need us!  Complete direct cremation is just $1400 with NO ADVANCE payment.  Call the Connecticut cremation experts at Colonial Funerals (203) 407-8899.

Cheap Funerals in Connecticut.

Does that surprise you?  It is unusual to see cheap and funeral in the same sentence.  Why do you suppose that is?  Funerals are as necessary as any aspect of life.  Would you not want your loved one to go to their final rest with the same respect, taken to the same burial plot, with the same casket, but do so at a lower cost?

It is not gauche or insensitive to equate a quality funeral with lower pricing.  The problem is so few quality funeral directors really care about saving you money on final expenses.  They know that at a stressful time they can pretty much offer anything at almost any price and you won’t question it.  Well, start questioning it!

In the state of Connecticut, you have a funeral director who combines quality, compassion, and lower prices.  The clear cut choice is Colonial Funerals.  Located in Hamden CT Colonial serves all of the state with the concern and service that you require while keeping prices lower than any funeral home in the state.  Please call them first at (203) 407-8899.

What is a Green Burial?

It certainly is an interesting topic isn’t it?  By definition a green burial is a way of caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact.  We all want to do our part to save this planet, but up until recently the idea of continuing to do so after we were gone was virtually unknown.  A green burial constitutes, among other things the proper caskets, shrouds, and/or urns.

The GBC is the Green Burial Council.  It demands that the owners of a cemetery are transparent in their operation.  They must be subject to third party scrutiny and be accountable.  If they have made promises in the past that would compromise the goal of staying “green” then they must reassess those pledges that were made before we realized our planet was in danger.

One thing that never changes in the state of Connecticut is the comfort you and your family have when you need a funeral director.  For decades that choice has been Colonial Funerals.  Located in Hamden, Colonial serves all of the state with the concern and service that you require while keeping prices lower than any funeral home in the state of Connecticut.  Please call them first at (203) 407-8899.

Giving Funeral Service a Better Name.

Unfortunately, with all of the baby boomers online having used a funeral service in recent years many funeral homes are getting beaten up for their practices.  The boomers site a lack of empathy, trying to be “upsold”, and many hidden costs from the very beginning.  We don’t want you to think of funeral directors as “used car salesmen”.

If a funeral director is introducing you to their most expensive items and services first they may be doing you a disservice.  Do they say things to you such as “this is what your mother would have wanted”?  Have they made what you consider false promises which cannot be delivered on when needed?  Often you will find that they have priced a package which simply does NOT add up!

At this time of need and vulnerability it is important to find a funeral home that really cares about the same things you do…dignity and affordability.  For generations in Connecticut, residents of the Nutmeg State have praised the services of Colonial Funerals.  They are price-conscious and conscientious.  Please give them a call at their location in Hamden at (203) 407-8899.

Don’t Let Hidden Funeral Costs Bury Your Family.

In a time of grief, you are burying a loved one.  If you are not careful the entire family will also be financially buried.  The funeral industry is overrun with hidden fees that are mostly unnecessary, but are never challenged because a grieving family is not in the mood to negotiate or ask pertinent questions at a time such as this.

We want you to be educated as to some of these hidden, unfair charges.  You will almost always be shown the most expensive caskets first.  If visitation hours are extended there will be a much higher cost.  What is the funeral home charging for the program and the obituary?  There is a charge for a temporary grave marker...and much more.

So many of these needless extra charges can be avoided or reduced.  At Colonial Funerals, we want you to be completely informed as to the cost of a funeral in the state of Connecticut.  Our family owned business knows that your family is suffering and needs to stay within a budget.  Contact Hamden Connecticut’s affordable family funeral home Colonial Funerals at (203) 407-8899.

Coping with Sudden Death.

When a tragedy in a family comes without warning the aftermath is devastating for loved ones.  It is common to dwell on the fate of the deceased and what could have been done to prevent their untimely demise.  Grief and being paralyzed into complete inaction are common at times like this.  It takes great strength and faith to go on.

Death without warning often happens in seconds or minutes.  This is entirely different from visiting grandma in the nursing home for years and then the end comes.  As a survivor you may just shut down.  You may also become protective of any memories you have of the deceased.  It is not uncommon to become sleep-deprived as well.

We understand you may not be thinking clearly at a time like this.  Please let us help.  At Colonial Funerals, serving all of Connecticut, we simply offer dignified burial or cremation services at a lower price.  That has and continues to be our policy.  If you have experienced the sudden, unexpected loss of a loved one, turn to www.colonialfunerals.com for the help that you need.  Call us at (203) 407-8899.

Don’t Get Carried Away with High Prices.

If you saw that on the sign at a car dealership or if a hot air balloon business were advertising it, you would understand.  That slogan also makes sense if you are an airline.  Would you be surprised if I told you that it was the motto of a funeral home?  Check it out.  Go to www.colonialfunerals.com and see the photo attached to that line.

The point is this, the end of life is a certainty.  It should not be accompanied by more angst than is necessary.  One of the things that grips the grieving family is the ridiculously high price of a funeral.  Why are prices as high as they are?  Did you ever think of comparing pricing of different funeral homes?  Hardly anyone does because the family is not thinking clearly at a time like this.

Colonial Funerals serving all of Connecticut wants you to be sensible and prudent.  We defy you to find another funeral home website where prices are proudly displayed there.  Why would any family want to pay more for the exact same services?  You wouldn’t do it with anything else.  Please contact Colonial Funerals a quality price conscious funeral home serving the great state of Connecticut.

Burial vs. Cremation.

Have a plan.  No one wants to face this situation, but we all must.  When the end of life comes and if your beliefs allow should you choose burial or cremation?  It is something that you should discuss long before it is necessary to make that decision.  However, too few people in the state of Connecticut have a clear vision of the pros and cons of each.

Here are some of them…

With burial -
1.  Embalming is typically part of the process
2.  A casket is involved
3.  A funeral followed by a burial is conducted shortly after death
4.  Following burial it is up to the family to maintain the plot

With cremation -
1.  No embalming
2.  A casket is not needed
3.  A memorial service can take place when and if the family is prepared
4.  The cremated remains may be placed in an urn or scattered at a special place.

Whatever you decide we promise to do the job for less.  We are Colonial Funerals located in Hamden.  Colonial Funerals is a price-conscious funeral home serving all of Connecticut.  See for yourself by visiting our website at www.colonialfunerals.com and actually see our pricing!  Then give us a call at (203) 407-8899.

We’re not in any hurry…if you’re not.

Choosing the right funeral home to meet your family’s needs should not be a rash decision made in haste.  Of course, we don’t want to dwell of the inevitable, but that is just what it is…inevitable.  Every funeral home carries the same message…serving the community for decades with care and concern for your loved ones.  Of course they do!

How many funeral homes really care to save you money?  That never seems to come up does it?  I mean, we spend a lifetime looking for a good deal.  We buy cars, houses, handbags, shoes, televisions with the most important tenant being…did I get a good value for my money?  Why would it be any different at the end of a life well lived?

There is one funeral home in the state of Connecticut that sees it differently.  At Colonial Funerals they will take you to the same church and the same cemetery, but their focus is giving you a bargain.  You spent your whole life looking for them and now you and your loved one will get the ultimate bargain.  See for yourself.  Visit their website at www.colonialfunerals.com and you will see what we mean.

Package Prices on a Funeral Home’s Website!

Have you ever heard of such a thing?  We see these innocuous TV commercials or newspaper ads for funeral homes.  They are caring, concerned, family owned for decades.  They say all of the right things and yet they say nothing.  When that ultimate time arrives we know nothing more about them than we did when we didn’t need them.

Are you aware that in the state of Connecticut there is one funeral home that dares to come out and answer the questions that are truly on your mind?  At a time of need the most important thing on most people’s minds is…can I afford the type of funeral that our family needs for closure?  They all take you to the same church and the same cemetery, but who does it for less.

Don’t give into emotion.  Give your family the closure it deserves at a fair and lower price than anywhere else.  Go to www.colonialfunerals.com and see the various funeral packages.  Who else does that?  Don’t waste your time.  This is a unique way of letting you know that Colonial Funerals is Connecticut’s best choice for complete funeral arrangements.  Call them at (203) 407-8899.

Why Pre-arrange Your Funeral?

Organization, planning, and judgement have characterized your life.  Why not continue that process to its logical conclusion?  You have built a family over the years.  These loved ones have supported you just as you have supported them.  The final gift that you can give them to remember you by is an absence of stress when your days on earth come to an end.

Taking a step such as this does not mean that you wish to leave your family anytime soon.  When you prearrange you take a lot of urgent and stressful decisions out of your loved one’s hands.  This will give you a peace of mind that will carry you through the rest of your life.  And, of course you lock in today’s prices before they increase.

Your friends at Colonial Funeral Home are always trying to save Connecticut residents money.  It is the basic premise on which they were founded.  Whether you prearrange your funeral or not the final expenses will simply be lower than anywhere else in the state.  See for yourself and visit their website at www.colonialfunerals.com or call (203) 407-8899.

Recognizing Excellence in Connecticut.

It is one thing to be excellent at what you do.  It is quite another to completely dominate the competition.  It only happens rarely in our sphere of influence.  More and more in our society we have the “everyone gets a trophy” mentality.  It takes much of the competitive spirit out of our children and even adults.

What the Connecticut University women’s basketball team has done is not just remarkable…it is ground breaking.  They have shown us that it is okay to dominate in a classy and respectful manner.  The face of that dominance is their coach Geno Auriemma.  If you are not familiar with the women’s basketball team and its impact on the sports world feel free to Google it.

Colonial Funerals serving all of Connecticut for decades wants to recognize this extraordinary group from the Constitution State.  Dignity, price, and environment are the concerns of Colonial Funerals.  Please visit the website of a very different type of price conscious funeral home.   Go to www.colonialfunerals.com and see for yourself.  Please give them a call at (203) 407-8899.

Considering Your Environmental Impact after Death.

It is always an awkward subject.  What is the right way to leave your mark on your family when life has reached its end?  Traditional American views on burial and cremation are evolving as we pay greater attention to our impact on the environment.  Not only that, but the equally unpleasant rising funeral expenses become a consideration as well.

Did you know that cemeteries nationwide bury nearly one million gallons of embalming fluid every year?  There are also an additional nearly 100 thousand pounds of steel being put into the ground just from caskets.  In burial vaults there are over one and a half million tons of concrete added to structures throughout the United States.

There is one funeral home in the state of Connecticut who recognizes that and addresses these issues.  Dignity, price, and environment are the concerns of environmentally conscious Colonial Funerals.  Please visit the website of a very different type of funeral home in the Nutmeg state.  Go to www.colonialfunerals.com and see for yourself.  Please give them a call at (203) 407-8899.

Save Thousands of Dollars on Funeral Expenses.

It looks odd at first doesn’t it?  One of the things that funeral homes rarely ever do is think about your family’s budget during a time of grief.  A handful of people have pre-paid their funeral, but for the rest of us it is not a subject we are prepared to broach until it is too late.  It would be nice if funeral homes were more in tune with our financial needs during this very stressful time.

Let’s face it, a funeral home will take you to the same church and the same burial plot that the others do.  Where the road begins to fork are the other ancillary expenses.  The casket can vary by thousands of dollars alone.  Little things add up to a lot such as the choice of flowers, music, the time spent before and after the services, etc.

Thank goodness there is one funeral home in the state of Connecticut who recognizes that and addresses the issue up front.  If you are skeptical about that claim then just visit the website of a very different type of funeral home in the Nutmeg state.  Go to www.colonialfunerals.com and see for yourself.  I will bet you have never seen a funeral home website like this one.  Please give them a call at (203) 407-8899.

Choosing the Right Burial Plot.

An important decision when planning a funeral is choosing the proper burial plot that meets your family’s needs.  Once the body is interred the price of removing it and moving to a different location can be very expensive and emotionally painful.  Make the right choice the first time - thinking of the survivors who will want to visit.

Here are important things to consider during the process:

1.  Price:  Make sure to include ALL aspects of the burial and get the final cost.
2.  Military affiliations:  See if your loved on qualifies to be buried in a federal cemetery.
3.  Religious affiliation:  Some cemeteries are only open to members of a certain denomination.
4.  Location, location, location:  Need we say more?
5.  Space:  Will other members of the family also be interred there?

If you live in the state of Connecticut you should contact Colonial Funerals. With Colonial you will know all of the prices before the stress takes over.  Not only are you able to make a more stress-free decision about the plot, but ALL aspects of the funeral at a much lower fee.  Contact Colonial Funerals at (203) 407-8899.   Or visit our website at www.colonialfunerals.com.

The Hidden Costs of Funerals.

Anyone who thinks that funerals are cut and dried and left solely to the discretion of the bereaved are living in a dream world.  Salesmanship is as prevalent at most funeral homes as it is at most car dealerships.  It is a sad truth, but it has been this way for decades.

You should be educated as to some of the “upsells” you might experience when preparing to say good-bye to a loved one.

1.)        Prepare to be shown the best, most expensive caskets first.

2.)        If your funeral home “bundles” its service, be very wary as it will likely increase costs.

3.)        Expect extra charges for extended hours of visitation.

4.)        If refrigeration is needed have the funeral as soon as possible as costs will mount.

5.)        Be careful how much is being charged for creating a program and obituary.

6.)        There may be an extra cost for graveside maintenance.  Look into this.

7.)        You also may be charged an exorbitant amount for a temporary grave marker.

For those of you who live in the state of Connecticut you should visit this website - www.colonialfunerals.com.  On their site AND in their home in Hamden they display the prices.  To the best of their knowledge they are the ONLY funeral home in Connecticut that does that.  Know the prices before the stress takes over.  Contact Colonial Funerals at (203) 407-8899.

Burial Pricing Explained Upfront.

Funeral homes all over America have hidden costs.  Even those that may promote a complete funeral at a reasonable price leave out some of the necessities of a funeral.  It makes sense I suppose.  The grieving are not thinking about all of the particulars of a complete funeral service under these stressful conditions so it is easy to “add on” to the final expenses.

Have you considered the cost of a burial?  Technically this has nothing to do with a “funeral service”, but the mark-up on that one aspect of the complete package could even make the deceased blush!  Of course, there is a cost for the final resting of the remains of your loved one, but how much does it really need to be?

Fortunately for those that live in the state of Connecticut you merely have to go to this website - www.colonialfunerals.com.  On their site AND in their home in Hamden they display the prices that are charged for a burial.  As a matter of fact, to the best of their knowledge they are the ONLY funeral home in Connecticut that does that.  Contact Colonial Funerals at (203) 407-8899.

Pre-Planning a Funeral in Connecticut.

With the New Year comes resolutions, some of which are easier kept than others.  Most people put off pre-planning funeral arrangements no matter what time of year it is.  Why should you pre-plan a funeral?  For one thing it offers great emotional and financial security for your family.  Why do you have life insurance?  This is very similar.

The National Funeral Directors Association has developed a Bill of Rights for funeral pre-planning.  This helps you fully understand what to expect from a pre-need agreement.  Once you have made your arrangements it is important to keep a copy of the contract in a safe place that may be accessed upon your passing to make sure that the details are followed to the letter.

It is comforting to know that the lowest prices on any funeral in Connecticut, whether it is pre-arranged or not, will always be found at Colonial Funerals.  At Colonial we have dedicated our lives to keeping the cost of a funeral at a minimum and will continue to do so.  Please visit our website at www.colonialfunerals.com and give us a call at (203) 407-8899.

Tips for Saving on Funeral Expenses.

We rarely are prepared for a funeral and we certainly do not like shopping around like we would for a car or perhaps that dream home.   It is however, a necessary part of life.

At a very stressful time when a funeral is necessary in your family’s life it would be nice to have some prior knowledge of ways to save on final expenses before that time arrives.

Here are a few tips that might help.  Explore your options such as cremation and discuss this with your family.  Talk to different funeral homes to see which ones may be trying to “sell you” instead of serve you.  Purchase only what you want not what someone else tells you that you need.  Perhaps you may wish to skip the embalming process.  And maybe consider eliminating the vault as a final resting place.

Whatever you decide in the preparation or pre-preparation of a funeral always remember to check with Colonial Funerals.  They have been serving Connecticut with the most cost-effective services for decades and that family tradition of common sense without greed has put them in good stead throughout the years.  Visit their website at www.colonialfunerals.com or give them a call (203) 407-8899.
